The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the many surprises in this 2011 NFL season.  They have had many standout players, but former Jet Braylon Edwards has been a bit of a disappointment so the team officially released him yesterday.

It hasn't been a great 2011 season for Wide Receiver Braylon Edwards who now finds himself on the outside looking in.  The San Francisco 49ers released the struggling receiver with just one week remaining in the regular season.   Edwards and the team are blaming his knee injury for the struggles.  He had surgery just three months ago and he hasn't had enough time to rehab.

Edwards isn't bitter though and released a statement on his website wishing the 49ers the best of luck in the playoffs and his pledge to his fans to work hard this off season to be ready for 2012.

I wish the 49ers organization the best of luck during the playoffs.  I will be working hard this off season to strengthen my knee and prepare for the 2012 season. Thanks for your continued support and for being such loyal fans.

Edwards signed a one year deal with San Francisco back in August after the spending the last few years with the New York Jets.  He only had 15 catches in 8 games and no touchdowns this year.
