What a great event. What a great game. What lousy officiating! That sums up the Winter Classic between the NY Rangers and the Philly Flyers. The fact that the Rangers won in thrilling fashion makes it all the better. I think anyone that watched this game would agree except Ref Ian Walsh who was there but missed a great game. A penalty shot really? For doing what? Right before that Walsh called a ridiculous penalty on Ryan Callahan for holding the stick denying the Rangers a Power Play that came on the same play when Kimmo Timonen interfered with Callahan.

Despite the lame attempt to help the flyers twice over the King Henrik Lundqvist beat back Philly for the 3rd time this year. Oh I am enjoying that 3-0 record vs this years version of the goon squad. the Flyers are such a farce their big free agent investment choke golie Ilya  Bryzgalov didn't even play.

Making the game even sweeter from a Rangers perspective was the return of captain and defensive stalwart Marc Staal who has not played this year due to a concussion. Staal saw 20 shifts and over 12 minutes of action as he works his way back. The rangers rallied from down 0-2 in the 2nd period. 2 tallies by Mike Rupp and the 3rd period winner by Brad Richards sunk the Fly Boys. The win gave the Rangers, winners of 5 straight games a 4 point cushion over Silly Philly and tied them with the Chicago Blackhawks for tops in the NHL. looking forward to a Winter Classic at Yankee Stadium featuring the Rangers and not the Flyers!
