The Yankees just finished a West Coast trip they would just as soon forget. And it's because of the starting pitching. Masahiro Tanaka needs to regroup and Luis Severino needs to quit reading the press clippings because he's been good but lately, but not great. Aaron Judge can't hit home runs every game, but scoring runs won't be the problem. The starting pitching needs to show some consistency. If not, the Yankees will struggle to stay atop the AL East.

At the beginning of the season, who would have thought an injury to CC Sabathia could potentially make all the difference in how consistent this starting staff is in 2017? Not many would have believed it, but here we are: Sabathia is likely to miss a decent amount of time and he may prove to be the missing piece without too many encouraging options to fill the void he leaves behind.
