The Giants franchise quarterback is headed into the regular season opener without a contract beyond this year. Is Eli Manning going to get a longterm contract before this weekend?

"Deals typically get before the season begins," said ESPN's Adam Schefter, to Armen and Levack, on 104.5 The Team. "I would be mildly surprised if that deal were not done by the time the Giants kicked off their game Sunday night.

"I think at some point there’s usually a rush and a flurry of deals with big name players that get done before the season kicks off. Every year there’s a big deal or two right before the season and I think with all the numbers in place for Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers, and some of these other quarterback extensions, you and I could do this deal right now and have it done within the next hour.

"It’s not a difficult thing to do and I think that the Giants, Eli Manning both would like to get this deal done and for the record it would not surprise me if that deal was done by Sunday."

Currently, Manning is expected to make $17 million in the final year of his deal. Compared to Roethlisberger and Rivers, as Schefter referenced, the guidelines would be roughly $20 million per year with $60 million guaranteed.
