"Todd Bowles said they’re looking to potentially trade for a quarterback this week," said Schefter, on 104.5 The Team. "Don’t know who that is quite yet. |

"It sounds like it’s Geno, maybe somebody they get off the street, maybe Fitzpatrick is ready to go? I’d be surprised if he’d be ready to go."

Schefter narrowed down the list of quarterbacks who the Jets would not be targeting:

"They will not go to Ryan Mallet, that name has come up. I don’t think Matt Schaub is in play as a Baltimore backup. Chase Daniel, the Chiefs have been hesitant about trading.

The Jets are in a tough spot, especially because trading for a quarterback the day of the deadline is not easy to do.

"It’s not as if you’re trading for a quarterback who’s going to step in off the street and lead you to the playoffs on November 2nd. It’s just a very rare thing. It doesn't happen very often. Quarterbacks are commodities, quarterbacks are currency in this league.

"Teams are not willing to give them up. They cost premiums. And it’s a difficult proposition the Jets are now in. I think they’re going to look at Geno, who was projected to be their starting quarterback, to get a week of going with the ones and hope that he did better than he did last week."

Schefter also ruled out Bryce Petty as a potential starter for the Jets.

The NFL trade deadline is at 4:00pm ET on Tuesday. Listen to "Armen and Levack" as the deadline goes down to get the biggest trades.

ESPN's Adam Schefter joins "Armen and Levack" every Monday at 4:45p ET, sponsored by Death Wish Coffee, on "Your Home for New York Sports", 104.5 The Team.
