Last Saturday, UAlbany Lacrosse hit a new milestone. It was the first win for the Great Danes Lacrosse team over thSyracuse Orange Lacrosse club in 11 tries.

As a team, UAlbany has vaulted to number 16 nationally in the new polls. Syracuse was ranked at #13 before the upset.

Leading the Great Danes to the win was Lyle Thompson who potted two goals and dished six assists in the win. For his efforts, Thompson was named the America East player of the week, the first time this early in the season that the award has been handed out.

For Thompson the team and his assists were sort of a family affair. He assisted on brother Miles goal and dished two assists to his cousin Ty. Those goals helped UAlbany bolt to a 4-0 lead and let the Orangemen know this wasn't going to be the usual contest.

Thompson's second goal of the game broke a 9-9 tie. He then dished helpers on two of the next three goals by the Great Danes that helped the Danes re-open a four goal lead.

However Syracuse came storming back again and forced over time. You know how this ends. Thompson assisted on the OT game winner, a nifty pass off his stick to brother Miles who buried the game winner as UAlbany pulled off the huge upset 16-15.

The new polls show UAlbany moving into the #16 spot and Syracuse dropping to #18.

The next test for UAlbany will come Saturday against another team getting some national props, Drexel. The Dragons are unranked but receiving votes and trying to crack into the top 25.
