The defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide football team will open the 2016 season as the #1 team in the country in the Amway/USA Today coaches poll. The Crimson Tide received fifty five of a possible sixty four first place votes. Clemson, the school that Alabama defeated in last year's national championship game, received seven first place votes and is ranked as the number two team in the preseason poll. The only other teams that received first place votes were the Florida State Seminoles and Tennessee Volunteers. The Coach Jimbo Fisher led Seminoles sit at fourth overall in the poll while the Coach Butch Jones led Volunteers check in at number ten. The rest of the top ten includes Oklahoma at three, Ohio State at five, LSU at six, Stanford at seven, Michigan at eight and Notre Dame at nine. The first official college football game at the FBS level this season kicks off on Thursday August 26th when Hawaii and California play in Sydney, Australia. ESPN's Thursday Night college football package returns on September 1st with match ups including South Carolina traveling to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt and Charlotte visiting Louisville.
