Last week we spoke to Kevin Duffy of MassLive.com and he told us that Albany native and Patriots running back Dion Lewis had been somewhat of a mystery at training camp this year in that people hadn't seen him around.

And on Sunday, we got some clarity for the lack of activity for Lewis:

According to Yahoo Sports! via Kevin Curran of CSN New England, Lewis' surgery is not related to the ACL injury suffered against Washington last year. He adds that Lewis will need 8-10 weeks for recovery time.

It's a blow for the Patriots, who were counting on a healthy Lewis to help alleviate the pressure on a Tom Brady-less offense for the first four weeks of the season. Lewis played in seven games last year, catching 36 balls for 388 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for two scores last season and his versatility helped make the Pats offense dynamic.

Now the team will use LeGarrette Blount and James White out of the backfield.
