Joseph Girard III is the far-and-away all-time leading scorer in New York state high school basketball history. The Glens Falls senior averaged better than 50 points per game in his junior year. The Syracuse-bound guard has a sectional title in hoops and two state championships in football and yet the accolades continue to pile up as the records continue to fall.

On Friday night, with Glens Falls facing rival Schuylerville, Girard hit a 3 at the buzzer to end the first half. As he went jogging into the locker room with 45 points, there was something even more special to come. The Section II single-game scoring record of 67 points from Rich Campoli has stood since the 1964-'65 season.

It was a close enough game the entire way that Girard would be on the floor long enough to chase that record and, along with the win, he got it. In a 98-83 victory, Girard carried the Indians with a never-before-seen 69 points in a single game.
