Anthony Davis joined some all-time greats last night in Detroit as his New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Pistons 111-106. Davis totaled 59 points as he shot 24-of-34 from the field, 9-of-10 from the free throw line and 2-for-2 from deep.

Davis joined historic company by achieving this feat. He joins Shaquille O'neal as the only player in the last 40 years to have a stat-line of 55+ points and 20+ rebounds. Davis scored 34 of his 59 points with Andre Drummond or Marcus Morris as his primary defender, shooting 16-of-19 against both of them. he is also the 2nd-youngest player in NBA history with 50 points and 20 rebounds in a game since Bob McAdoo in the 1973-74 season.

Davis has certainly solidified himself as a premier player in this generation of NBA players. And he's getting better. Had his team not been in a bit of disarray and Warriors guard Stephen Curry slowed down his unrealistic pace, perhaps we might be talking about Anthony Davis as this years NBA MVP.
