Combined catcher Miguel Montero and rookie first baseman Paul Goldschmidt went 4-7 with seven RBI in Arizona’s first win of the 2011 playoffs.

Shaun Marcum had a great season with the Brewers this season.  He could not maintain that consistency in his first start this post-season. He let up seven runs on seven hits through less than five innings. Not only were those seven runs the most he has let up this season, it’s the most he has let up since August 11, 2010.

The scoring for Arizona started early with an RBIs from Montero and Goldschmidt in the first inning.  That gave the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead, which would ultimately be enough runs to get the win.  The Brewers did score, but it was only on a solo homerun from outfielder Corey Hart.

Montero added another two RBI in the third inning, but the game was still in reach.  Then in the fifth inning Marcum fell apart.  The Diamondbacks’ starting pitcher Josh Collmenter led off the inning with a single. Miguel Montero was intentionally walked to load the bases with Goldschmidt on deck.  Goldschmidt stepped up the the plate and came through yet again, hitting a grand slam deep to right field giving the Diamondbacks an 8-1 lead.

That would be the final score. Josh Collmenter earned the win only allowing two hits, one run through seven innings.  Game four of this series will take place Wednesday October 5th. Randy Wolf and Joe Saunders are the starters for the Brewers and Diamondbacks respectively.  First pitch is scheduled for 9:37pm. We will join that game after Game four of the Cardinals and Phillies (Philadelphia leads series 2-1) on 104.5 “The Team” ESPN Radio!
