Bad news for the New York Mets as new shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera may have to begin the season on the disabled list with a knee injury.

More from Rubin via general manager Sandy Alderson:

Alderson is right... If the Mets were to suffer an injury, that is the position to do it at. The Mets have Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada as insurance in the infield. In fact, both of them were starters a season ago.

For Tejada, it probably means that he'll stay in New York. We heard yesterday that the St. Louis Cardinals were interested in acquiring him after a thumb injury has sidelined Johnny Peralta for multiple months.

If Cabrera is to start the season on the DL, what will the Mets be missing? Not much, as Cabrera and Flores put up nearly identical stats a season ago. The Mets will miss the versatility in the lineup as Cabrera is a switch-hitter and the versatility of Flores on defense.
