University of Miami Booster Says He Provided Perks to 72 Athletes Over the Past Eight Years

A booster for the University of Miami told Yahoo! Sports that he provided cash and benefits to dozens of the school’s athletes over the past decade.

Nevin Shapiro, who’s serving a 20-year sentence for his role in a Ponzi scheme, said that some of the school’s coaches knew about the under-the-table gifts. The gifts included cash, prostitutes, entertainment costs, jewelry, and even, in one case, an abortion for a stripper whom a player impregnated.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame welcomed seven new members Saturday night, headlined by players Deion Sanders, Shannon Sharpe, Marshall Faulk, and Richard Dent. Chris Hanburger, Les Richter, and Ed Sabol were also enshrined.

Teenagers Learn Science By Playing Baseball

Summer school has met the national pastime in Boston.

The tuition-free summer MIT Science of Baseball program teaches 30 inner-city teenage boys “baseball-related math and physics” during morning classes and then show the players how to translate those lessons to the diamond during afternoon games, reports The Boston Globe.

Former Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington in Hospital After Being Hit By SUV [VIDEO]

While riding his bicycle on Sunday night in Oregon, former Detroit Lions quarterback Joey Harrington was struck by an SUV. He sustained a broken collar bone, a punctured lung, and a cut to his head in the collision, according to reports.

Harrington remains hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery, and could be released Tuesday.
