The NHL Playoffs are upon us, which means that sixteen teams have dropped the gloves in a quest to lift Lord Stanley's Cup. Apparently, it also means that the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators have dropped the gloves looking to kill one another in this crazy fight, known as a line brawl.
With Russell Westbrook out for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Durant has had to carry even more than his usual workload to keep his team afloat. He did just that yesterday, carrying the Thunder to a Game One victory in the Western Conference semifinals against the Memphis Grizzlies thanks, in large part, to this game winning jumper.
Derrick Rose has not played in a game for the Chicago Bulls for over a year. After blowing out his knee in round one of last year's playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers, he has been rehabbing, with a return during this post season a possibility. However, it does not look as if he is going to return to the court, as he is unlikely to play in Game One of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Miami Heat.
Whenever a big time news story breaks, you can always rely on Twitter to give you both insightful commentary and a representation from the depths of the Internet, both in 140 characters or less. This is a profile of the latter, as many people have taken it upon themselves to try and tear down NBA player Jason Collins for coming out as gay.
Jason Collins made history yesterday by becoming the first active player in major American sports to come out as gay. This is, by and large, a great thing that will hopefully lead us down a path of eventually not caring about the sexuality of anyone in this country and viewing everyone as equal. Some, however, including ESPN analyst Chris Broussard, are less enthusiastic about it, calling it an open rebellion to God.
Jason Collins has spent 12 years in the NBA with a number of teams, most recently the Washington Wizards. However, more important than his contributions on the court is his most recent contribution off of it, as he told Sports Illustrated that he is gay, becoming the first active player in the NBA to do so.
