According to the Times Union, these horses are the best to ever run in Saratoga.

1 American Pharoah, Bob Baffert, 2015: Finished 2nd in Travers. He didn't win at the Spa, but he won the Triple Crown, and if that doesn't make you famous, what does?

2 Ashado, Todd Pletcher, 2003-05: Hall of Famer (class of 2014) won Schuylerville and Spinaway, won Go For Wand. Tough, hard trying filly.

3 Azeri, D. Wayne Lukas, 2004: Won Go for Wand, 2nd in Personal Ensign. Not many were faster than this Hall of Famer and four time Eclipse winner (Horse of the Year, 2002),

4 Bernardini, Tom Albertrani, 2006: Won Jim Dandy and Travers. Combined margin of victory in those two races? Only 16 1/2 lengths.

5 Curlin, Steve Asmussen, 2008: Won Woodward. On his way to his second consecutive Horse of the Year award, Curlin stopped by the Spa to win the Woodward.

6 Fourstardave, Leo O'Brien, 1987-1995: Won a Saratoga race every year from 1987-1994. Raced 21 times at Saratoga in career, won nine of them. Maybe most popular Spa horse ever.

7 Point Given, Bob Baffert, 2001: Won Travers. The dominating Travers win was the final race for the Big Red Train, who was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2010"

This list goes back 25 years. Of course the best horse to race ever at Saratoga was Secretariat and I had the pleasure of seeing that.
