Black Onyx has been pulled out of the 139th Kentucky Derby due to a chip in the animal's left ankle.  The horse qualified for the Derby by winning the Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park.

50-1 was the horse's morning line and post position one was the Derby starting point for Saturday.  The #1 post position won't be filled.  All of the Wednesday posts will remain the same for the other 19 horses in The 139th Kentucky Derby.

It is unknown if Black Onyx will need future surgery.  "He's back in the barn. He's not feeling that bad because he just tried to bite me," trainer Kelly Breen told The Associated Press.  "It couldn't have been worse timing."

The scratch of Black Onyx actually came too late for Fear the Kitten to get into the Derby.  Fear the Kitten was on the list for eligibles as the 21st qualifier in the standings in terms of points which determine the field.
