What an exciting week of baseball it was for the Capital Region.

It started on Monday with the selection of Niskayuna senior Garrett Whitley in the MLB Draft. Whitley was taken No. 13 overall by the Tampa Bay Rays.

The good week continued on Wednesday with the selection of two more players out of Section II in CBA grad Trevor Lacosse and Greenwich senior John Stewart.

And it all culminates this weekend with the New York State tournament. We have two local teams left in Saratoga (Class AA) and Hoosic Valley (Class C).

After dethroning Shen in Section II, the Blue Streaks take on Orchard Park (Buffalo) at 1 p.m. on Saturday while HV is looking for its second straight state title in Class C.

As always, we brought in Dan Cevette of the Prep Baseball Report to get his take on Whitley's selection and to get his keys to the Saratoga/Orchard Park game.
