***UPDATE***

The Giants told Eli that he would start the game and then Geno Smith would play the second half. Eli decided to forgo the start.

The New York Giants have made a shocking move on Tuesday as they have benched quarterback Eli Manning for back-up Geno Smith ahead of their game against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. The benching comes as the Giants sit at 2-9 and last in the NFC East.

Heading into week 13, Manning had started 210 consecutive games (2nd all-time) in the NFL for the Giants since being drafted 1st overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 2004 NFL draft (traded to the Giants).

Smith will make his first start since October 23rd of 2016 against the Baltimore Ravens. In the pre-season, Smith was very unimpressive, but managed to beat out the lackluster Josh Johnson for the back-up role. Davis Webb, the Giants 3rd-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft will get game time during the remainder of the season according to reports.

Is it an end of an era for the New York Giants?
