It was suspected that Brian Schottenheimer's time with the New York Jets was over after this years 8-8 season and missing the playoffs.  The Jets are playing it off as it was Schottenheimer's decision to not return, but what is he leaving for?  We learned weeks ago that whether he got a head coaching job or not, that he was likely not going to be asked back.

Yesterday Schottenheimer learned that he would not be the new head coach of the Jaguars.  Instead that position will go to Mike Mularkey.  It was hours after that, that the Jets made the announcement about his departure.  They are already looking ahead at replacements and it looks like former Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano is the front runner.
