The Clifton Park resident originally signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks last November, but he was released during Spring Training. Sweeney has appeared in 73 games over the course of 4 seasons in the MLB with Seattle and San Diego.

Brian started on Opening Day last week for the Somerset Patriots, earning a win after striking out 8 batters in a strong 7-inning performance.

The Mets have experienced a string of injuries with their pitchers lately, including season-ending Tommy John surgeries for Jenrry Mejia and Boof Bonser. Sweeney will start his Mets career by reporting to Triple-A Buffalo.
