It was a great ride for the Bills.

Back in early October, Buffalo was the surprise team of the NFL. In fact, the Bills seemed poised to erase one of the longest active playoff droughts in the league.

Five weeks can change a lot of things in the NFL. The Bills lost again on Sunday, 23-17, to the Tennessee Titans, at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Buffalo has just one victory, a 23-0 shutout over Washington, since Columbus Day.

They've lost in every way -- close, being blown out, losing in the final minute -- it hasn't been fun to be a Bills fan recently.

On Sunday, they let Chris Johnson (one of the most disappointing players this year) run all over them. Johnson finished with 153 yard and two touchdowns in the victory.

Just like in 2008, the Bills have seen a terrific start fizzle away into another early offseason.

Three years ago, it was Trent Edwards who led the Buffalo out to a 4-0 start, before the team finished 7-9.

This year, the Bills started off 3-0, including a terrific win over the New England Patriots. Ever since, Buffalo has been 2-7, and lost six of its last seven games.

Not only are the Bills out of the playoff race, with Miami's resurgence, Buffalo is now just one game out of last place in the division.

Some of it has to do with injuries. More players are injured for the Bills than are healthy (at least it seems that way).

But just like in 2008, it seems as if this is who the Bills really are -- a mediocre team that won a few more games early in the season then people thought they would.

You are what your record says you are and Buffalo is simply an average team, in the best case scenario.

Another collapse leaves Bills fans wondering when (if ever) this playoff drought will end.
