He's gone on a post-season tear that has never been seen and ESPN's Buster Olney says the Mets have spoken recently on what to do with Daniel Murphy this off-season.

"No he won’t be [back with the Mets next year]," said Olney, to "Armen and Levack", "but I think that his great run through the postseason has put the Mets in a tremendous position to make a really smart decision, which is to give him a qualifying offer.

"They’ve already talked about this internally, a $15.8 million dollar, and one-year deal. No player has ever accepted a qualifying offer and he’ll almost certainly reject it. He’ll sign a multi-year deal with another team and then the Mets will yield a draft pick out of that, which they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do.

"If in the off-chance, let’s just say crazy things happen and he just accepts it, he is probably a 10-12 million dollar a year player. If you’re paying now a World Series hero, a fan favorite 15.8 million, that’s really not that much of an overpay. I’m sure the Mets privately would be rooting for him to turn it down, but if he stays, it wouldn’t be the worst thing is the world either."

Game one of the World Series can be heard Tuesday night at 8:07p ET, on 104.5 The Team.

ESPN's Buster Olney joins "Armen and Levack every Thursday at 5:15p ET, sponsored by All Star Wine and Spirits.
