You can’t blame New Jersey for moving their AHL affiliate, the Albany Devils, to Binghamton after the season. They are tired of being last in the league in attendance and more importantly they are tired of losing money. The Devils reported a seven figure loss this past year in Albany. The Binghamton group is giving New Jersey $2 million as part of the new deal, and you can’t turn that down. I feel badly for the die-hard AHL fans, but the bottom line is attendance in downtown Albany hasn’t been very good since the days of the River Rats in the early 1990’s.
