Loudonville native Jeb Buchanan recently won the New York State Open at Bethpage Black in a playoff, none-the-less.

After performing well during his career at the University of Connecticut and then on the PGA Latin American Tour, the New York State Open championship last Thursday was by far the biggest victory that Buchanan has accomplished.

"You know, it's Bethpage Black," said the Schuyler Meadows product, according to Newsday. "It's always hard work. You've just got to stay patient out here, give it the best you can, and hope for the best.

"Man, just one shot at a time, the oldest rule in golf. Just ride the waves of emotion and try to stay as even keel as possible."

Buchanan, a graduate of Shaker High School, turned 25 years old on Sunday: "This is as good a gift as I could give myself."

Buchanan's winnings included a $17,500 check.

Special thanks to the Metropolitan PGA for their assistance.
