We have great restaurants here in the Capital Region but sometimes, no matter how great we think they are, they just don't make it.

I asked you on Facebook to list restaurants we used to have in this area but miss now that they've closed. I got the idea from a Times Union piece that also discussed "forgotten restaurants." A few of their reader's comments included: Bob and Ron's Fish Fry (Albany/Latham), Cella Bistro (Schenectady), Circus Cafe (Saratoga), The Cranberry Bog (Colonie), and others. I took the comments you left on our Facebook page and here are the restaurants that you said you wish never left the area. Are there any others that need to be on the list?

The Top Three were:

  • #1: Bugaboo Creek (Albany) - I miss that moose at Crossgates Mall too!
  • #2: Fuddruckers (Colonie)
  • #3: Garcia's Mexican Restaurant (Colonie)

Others that were mentioned were:

  • Butcher Block (Colonie): which later became Central Steak and eventually that folded as well
  • Dorado's
  • Old Country Buffet
  • Chi Chi's
  • Krispy Kreme (Colonie)
  • Ground Round (Schenectady)
  • Papa’s Corner Restaurant (Watervliet)
  • Old Homestead (Ballston Spa)
  • Ponderosa
  • L-Kens
  • Fannie’s Restaurant (Latham)
  • American Cafe (Colonie Center)
  • Cavalieri's
  • South End Tavern

  • Minissale's
  • Miss Albany Diner
  • Villa Valentis
  • Cella Bistro
  • The Weathervane
