After Joseph Girard III broke the New York state scoring record Tuesday night, I started lobbying on his behalf for a day off from school. It fell on mainly deaf ears, but we did pull the Glens Falls junior out of class for a segment on Big Board Sports.

This night was inevitable. Not a question of if, but when. Joseph Girard III was so far ahead of the scoring pace that 4,000 career points is in play for the Glens Falls junior. Catching Lance Stephenson on the New York state scoring list almost started to feel like a formality on Girard’s way to putting up numbers that not too long ago would have been laughable. In fact, they still are.
