Wednesday night's HBO lineup featured the beginning of the network's preview of the 2012 NHL Winter Classic, which will feature the Rangers and the Flyers.  It is a documentary that will closely and completely follow the teams in their lead up to hockey's biggest regular season event.

Following a 5-2 loss to the Rangers, in which his team was severely outplayed, Sharks Captain Joe Thornton called the Rangers 'soft.'  Ranger coach John Tortorella responded, according to ESPN, by telling the forward to 'just shut up.'

Rangers Fall In Home Opener

It was a star-studded night at the partially renovated Madison Square Garden tonight for the Rangers' home opener.  Seven games in the Blue-shirts were finally playing a home game, and it would not end well.  Despite a fast start the Rangers would fall to their original-six rival, the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-2.

NHL Blacking Out Ranger Games

The New York Rangers will finally open the partially renovated Madison Square Garden tonight, but chances are you won't get to see it.  Despite the existence of what seems like a substantial Ranger fandom in the Capital Region, Ranger games, including tonight's home opener (according to the Times Union), are routinely blacked out.  So unless you're lucky enough to have NHL Center Ice, and the money it costs to buy such a package, you're left watching the Sabres, Islanders, Devils, Long Island High School Football or whatever else makes it to MSG over the Broadway Blue Shirts.
