The UAlbany and Siena men's basketball coaches, Dwayne Killings and Carm Maciariello, may not face each other on the court this year but they are continuing the tradition to team up for the 16th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Basket "Ball", Monday, October 4th at the Albany Capital Center. This is a tremendous evening of true community camaraderie centered around our two Division I college basketball programs. It is definitely one of the best events of its kind.

It's hard not to be skeptical of the NCAA or some of the larger conferences, aka the Power 5 schools, when it comes to things like, well, paying student-athletes above and beyond their tuition, room and board and more recently, a "cost of attendance" stipend. Yes, they are institutes of higher learning but over the years even some of the most prestigious universities in the United States, such as Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke and even Harvard have been marred by athletic scandals. Then add in the football and basketball powerhouses that occupy your tv screen every week and the list of improprieties would make your head spin.

Pandora’s Box has now been opened. The NCAA ruled that student-athletes may now own their NIL (Name, Image & Likeness). The ruling seems like it would be a common sense decision and it should be but it’s not.

Iit's extremely exciting to see players who called the Capital Region home during the early portion of their career succeed. Add Daniel Carr to that list.

It's been a long and winding road in college hockey for Jack Adams. After struggling in Schenectady, and not finding success in Providence, Adams has yet another move on his hands.

The United States Junior National Hockey team has become a true world power on the ice! The US beat a strong Canadian team in Edmonton Canada this weekend to win its fifth gold medal in the IIHF World Junior tournament. If you were watching the Junior US team Capital Region Hockey fans may have noticed a familiar face caching the team. Former Union men's hockey coach Nate Leaman can add "Gold medal-winning coach" to his resume.

The Union Atletic Department has made its decision regarding intercollegiate hockey for the 2020 - 2021 season. Union joins rival RPI in its decision to not participate in the 2020 - 2021 hockey season for the Men's or Women's teams. Tough news but not unexpected news.

As the number of COVID-19 cases continue to climb as part of a potential second wave many colleges have been forced to make tough decisions, Union College is now one of them. Union College has decided to not participate in intercollegiate competition during the 2020-21 winter season for basketball, indoor track & field and swimming & diving.

The Dutchmen are gaining national recognition

For a second straight in the Mayor's Cup rivalry between Union and RPI, the game as decided in a shootout.

Four years ago, Jeff Behrman inherited an 0-10 football team and now a win over rival RPI would flip that record for the Dutchmen.
