The Mets are getting a significant member of their club back tonight, and I’m not talking about Jason Bay. Bay, who was projected to return in the series opener against the Nationals, will not be in the line-up tonight due to illness; however Chris Young will be on the mound, making his season debut with the club.

Chris Young had surgery last season to repair the torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder, and will be making his first major league start since May 1, 2011. Young’s surgery was very similar to the one that Johan Santana, who pitched a no-hitter on Friday night, came back from after missing the entire 2011 season. Young was signed in the off-season with low expectations, but with the season ending injury to Mike Pelfrey, his return to the line-up could play a pivotal role in the Mets sustained success.
