Sunday afternoon saw the first road race of the year on the Sprint Cup Schedule in Sonoma, California. Clint Bowyer would cross the finish line for his first victory of the year.

The race was rather uneventful with a minimal amount of Caution flags. It took 83 laps of 110 til the first one came out due to Tony Drissi crashing in the wall and stopping in the middle of the track. It was another rough go for Jeff Gordon as he ran out of gas at lap 72 and struggled to make it to his Pit stall. He was running in the top 5 at the time. He had even led at one point. It's been a rough and tumble season for the #24 car.

Clint Bowyer led the most laps and had a 5 second advantage over the rest of the pack, but the caution changed all that. Last year's Sonoma winner was constantly on Bowyer's tail after the restart. Bowyer started to break away and looked to run away with it until an accident with 4 laps to go involving Kyle Busch, Juan Montoya and Paul Menard brought out the second caution of the day leading up to a Green-White-Checkered finish.

Bowyer's car was just too good as he overcame the cautions and took the checkered flag.  Tony Stewart would take second with a nice move to overtake Kurt Busch who finished 3rd. Brian Vickers and Jimmie Johnson would round out the Top 5. Bowyer was obviously light on fuel because he ran out as he was doing his victory burnouts!

Next weekend the Sprint Cup Series heads to Kentucky Speedway for some Saturday Night racing with the Quaker State 400. TV coverage starts at 6:30 on TNT.
