Shenendehowa High School graduate Branden Cogswell will take the field tonight in Omaha, Neb. trying to help the University of Virginia win its first national championship.

Cogswell is hitting .297 on the season, second on the team that spent much of the year at No. 1 nationally and has won eight out of nine postseason games.

The ‘Cavs were the only undefeated team in Omaha (3-0) and will head into the three-game championship series against Vanderbilt with its pitching intact. The Commodores needed four games to get to the championship series, going 3-1.

Cogswell is hitting .400 (4-10) in the series while also contributing multiple key bunts to either score or advance runners.

The junior was a seventh-round pick of the Oakland Athletics in this year’s draft. He’ll have the option to sign or return to school for his senior year.
