Coming into the season, the Capital Region wondered how two of its most favorite basketball sons would perform in their transition to college.

Scotia High School graduate Joe Cremo led the Tartans to consecutive state championships in his junior and senior year while earning the praise of the local area fans.

Lake George graduate Joel Wincowski continued to score, and score, and score as he led the Warriors to two state titles in his tenure as well. He scored 2,617 points (5th all-time in NYS history) and broke Jimmer Fredette's Section II scoring record.

Cremo, playing at UAlbany, scored six points in his first game against Kentucky. Not a bad start. He played 18 minutes last night for the Danes against Colgate and he scored eight points - including a three-pointer. He also played some point guard in the win.

Wincowski, at UMBC, has played nearly 23 minutes a game in the first three games for the Retrievers. He's scored nine points total, including five against Wake Forest of the ACC.

Not a bad start to the careers...
