After winning the America East Conference title for the third straight year in 2014-15, the UAlbany Great Danes started off the conference season this year with another win, topping the University of Maryland-Baltimore County Retrievers, 73-59, at SEFCU Arena.

The Danes are now 12-4 overall with the win. Five members of the Purple and Gold registered double-figures, including Ray Sanders, who led the way with 16.

Evan Singletary followed with 14 while Joe Cremo and Mike Rowley followed with 12. CBA graduate Greig Stire had 10.

In a game that was billed as a matchup between former Section II stars, the UAlbany tandem of Cremo and Stire (22 points) bested Joel Wincowski (Lake George/UMBC). Wincowski had zero points as he struggled to get the ball.

He is the all-time leader in points in Section II with more than 2,600.

UAlbany shot 51 percent from the floor for the game and held the Retrievers to just 44 percent.

UAlbany will play at Vermont on Saturday.
