In hockey vernacular they call it stealing a win. Friday night at the Times Union Center the Connecticut Whale played the part of thief!

Out shot by a nearly 3-1 margin, 44-15, the Whale managed an overtime shootout victory 2-1 over the Albany Devils. Mattius Tedenby scored the only goal of the game for the home Devils, lighting the lamp in the first period.

Connecticut, the top farm team of the New York Rangers tied the game late in the first on a Christian Thomas score. From that point on the Devils dominated but were stopped time and time again by Whale net minder Cameron Talbot.

The shot board clearly read one sided. Shots by period for the Whale were six, two, and seven and NONE in the 5 minute OT. For Albany the shot board was 12, 18, 11 and 3 in the extra session.

Matt Gilroy scored the only shootout goal against Jeff Franzee. Franzee stopped 14 shots in the first three periods and the five minute OT.

The Devils hit the ice right away as they travel to Adirondack to play the Phantoms. It is game two of the Time Warner Cable Cup. The teams meet 12 times this year. The Devils won the first match up in Albany last week, 5-1.
