Every point is huge at this juncture of the season. The same can be said for every point not gained. Such was the case Sunday on home ice as the Devils dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Rochester Americans.

This loss will sting even more as the Devils blew a 2-0 lead in the 3rd period. Even more galling, the Americans tying goal came while they were shorthanded and late in the 3rd.

A 2nd period goal by Albany's Reid Boucher held up until the 3rd. Jean-Sebastien Berube made it 2-0 when he notched his 1st goal of the season early in the 3rd period. With Keith Kinkaid in goal and dominating territorial play you had to feel good if you are a Devils fan. better check those feelings.

Rochester began their comeback on a Nick Crawford tally at 8:02. That cut the lead in half. The goal that really hurt though was a shorthanded goal by Zemgus Girgensons at 15:35.

The Devils dominated the shot stat with 41. Rochester had 23. However the Americans got the most important shots past Kinkaid in the shootout, outscoring the Devils 3-0 to gain the extra point.

Here is the playoff chase as it stands on Tuesday night. Albany has 6 games left, 1 more on the road, that comes up Friday night at Binghamton. Then they close out the season with 5 straight home games. Right now at 71 points they are toed for 10th, 11th, and 12th place in points with Manchester and Bridgeport. 8th place Hershey and 9th place Norfolk each have 75 points. All 5 of these teams have played the same 70 games.

So the chase is down to 6 games. The last 5 games of the regular season are at the Times Union Center
