Mathematically eliminated from the playoffs last weekend the Albany Devils had to wonder what kind of effort they would get from all their players Friday night at the Times Union Center. That question was answered with a solid 3-2 win over the Connecticut Whale.

Each team scored a goal in each of the 1st 2 periods. the game remained in a 2-2 stalemate until Joe Whitney broke the tie and the Whale with just 4:59 remaining. For Whitney it was  team leading 26th goal.

Whitney's goal gave the win to Keith Kinkaid, his 21st of the year. Ironically he made 21 saves to get that 21st victory. By the way the Whitney game winner was his 5th of the year, leading the team in that category.

Harri Pesonan scored 2 goals in leading Albany. Pesonan has 14 goals this year. Kinkaid's win total is 3rd highest in franchise history, trailing Mike  McKenna's 2 in 2009/2010 and Jeff Frazee who has the 1 season mark of 28 set in 2008/2009.

The Devils have 2 games left to be played this year. Norfolk will be the opponent Saturday night at the TU Center.
