The Road Kings got crowned Saturday night but not the crown they were looking for. Thanks to a feisty effort and some solid goaltending by Martin Brodeur the New Jersey Devils staved off elimination for a 2nd time, winning on home ice in game 5  by the final of 2-1.

For the Kings AMAZINGLY it was their 1st road loss of the entire post season. A blunder by their own netminder Jonathank Quick proved a disaster. Quick while his team trying to kill a 1st period penalty tried to pass the puck behind his net only for it to be intercepted by Zach Parise who jammed the puck in the goal and beating Quick as he scrambled to get back in between the pipes. Parise was smashed on the play by Drew Doughty but not before burying the buscuit in the basket. That was the only tally of the period. LA outshot NJ 7-4 in the stanza.

The last of the scoring came in period 2. 1st the Kings tied the game on Justin Williams 4th score of the playoffs at 9.33. The tie was snapped 9.05 later with what proved to be the game winner by Jersey's Bryce Salvador. It looked as if the puck was deflected by David Clarkson with 1.22 left in the session.

The 3rd period period was filled with numerous Kings chances, out shooting  NJ 9-3. However Brodeur proved to be up to the task and LA missed a few golden opportunities. Nike Richards had back to back 1 timers with Jersey scrambling. he missed the net on the 1st and the 2nd was turned back.

Game 6 will head back to LA on Monday night. The Kings remarkably were unbeaten away from home until Saturday, winning their 1st 10 road games. An 11th road victory would have been  new record.

Speaking of records only 1 team has ever rallied from 0-3 down to win a Cup final, that being the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs. For at least 2 days now Devil fans can dream of being the 2nd!
