The first step on the road to recovery last night for Albany native Dion Lewis: The Patriots running back had ACL surgery yesterday and by all accounts, it went well.

Lewis had the surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews, so you know that's always a good start. Andrews is the super doctor who seems to perform every big operation on every big star.

He performed Tommy John Surgery on Shaker graduate Jeff Hoffman, who's in the Colorado Rockies organization.

Lewis suffered a torn ACL in a Patriots win over the Redskins earlier this season. It was really unfortunate because Lewis had emerged as one of the most exciting players on the league's most exciting team.

Lewis had become a valuable pass catcher out of the backfield and was also capable of running the ball. He was a favorite offensive weapon of Tom Brady.

He had four total touchdowns this season. He had 36 catches and 49 carries this season.
