ESPN’s Doris Burke delivered the bad news to Paul Pierce that point guard Rajon Rondo will be out for the season with a torn ACL.  See Pierce’s animated reaction.

Man, what a bummer.  After a hard-fought win by the Boston Celtics over the Miami Heat 100-98 in double overtime on Sunday, Paul Pierce learned that Rajon Rondo will be out for the remainder of the 2012-13 season.  ESPN’s Doris Burke broke the bad news to Pierce that Rondo suffered a torn ACL in Friday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Pierce’s reaction was very telling.  He understands just how much Rajon Rondo means to the Boston Celtics.  You could almost see the wheels turning inside of Pierce’s head that he and Kevin Garnett are older players and that any chance the Celtics had of competing this season was gone.  That will definitely be the case.  Boston will be fortunate to just make the playoffs without Rondo.

The Boston Celtics will be featured next Thursday night at 8:00pm on 104.5 The Team.  The Rondo-less Celtics will host the Los Angeles Lakers on February 7th.  Your home for the best NBA action is 104.5 The Team, ESPN Radio.
