Geno Smith, along with a few teammates, missed a team meeting on Friday because he miscalculated the time zone in California. Herm Edwards believes that Smith shouldn't have played.

"When you miss the whole meeting, that never bodes well with me," said Edwards, with Armen and Levack, on Tuesday. "He basically wouldn't have played, I would've just sat him out. The game is bigger than any player, and players need to realize that.

"Why should he play?"

Later on Tuesday afternoon, Rex Ryan responded to Edwards on 98.7 ESPN FM.

"If Herm Edwards gets to coach another team again, then he can do exactly what he wants," said Ryan. "No offense, but I don't care to be compared to him anyway."

Edwards coached the Jets from 2001 to 2005.

Herm Edwards joins Armen and Levack every Monday at 5:15, thanks to McLane Food Service.
