High school sports are just days away from kicking into full gear. The Albany High School football team is finishing up a team camp this week, but the Falcons will hit the field for full practice soon under the direction of first year head coach Joey DiPiazza.

One of those student-athletes who will help Albany this season is sophomore Zaeqwan Cancer, who earns our Athlete of the Week honors!

Cancer will help anchor the offensive and defensive lines for the Falcons, and figures to be a leader and a mainstay on the defensive unit.

Furthermore, Cancer is extremely dedicated in the community. In March, he was a WORDS winner.

WORDS is a program that highlights random acts of kindness by youth in Albany County. Cancer won for helping families carry strollers up and down stairs during the Hannaford's KidzExpo at Empire State Plaza.

DiPiazza called Cancer the "true student-athlete."

The Falcons open up the 2015 season on September 5 against Columbia. That game will be played at UAlbany.
