People always complain about having nothing to do around this area  - even in the spring and summer.  I say there is far to much to do. Every year I find my self camping fishing and hiking most of the summer. Here are some great ideas for the novice camper to help start the year.

First I will give a great idea for a day hike for you and your friends.

Cat Mountain- Just out side of Lake George, the trail is the only one where you can get breathtaking views of the whole lake and its inlets. It has all kinds of great things to see besides the view of Lake George, with ponds wet lands and just the glory that is the Adirondack Mountains. This hike is more classic Adirondacks then French louis, the trail a little tough but nothing that someone with moderate experience can’t handle.

A word of advice for a first time hiker, take note of the no camping and no fire rules on the trail. I know for a fact that the Rangers do patrol this popular trail and they will fine you. Also when bringing a special lady there get ready to pile on the brownie points if you remember your binoculars at the summit.

Next I want to let you know of a great camping spot in the North Country. Now I’m not going to tell you about my personal site (the park is full of gems) but I will tell you a good place to look.

Indian Lake- It is a beautiful lake just north of Speculator New York; the water is still clear and amazing.  The views you can take part in will be enough to keep you coming back year after year and it has some great trails to hike that go all the way around the lake. Also with the lack of light pollution it leads to some of the best star gazing you will ever do. The fishing is also great in the outlying streams, plus you’re only a short drive form the Sacandaga River which provides great fishing for all types of Trout.  You bring a little foil and bacon you got a great trout dinner, but that’s another article.

Again pay attention to signs up in that area of the park, stay to the state land and off private property to avoid a major buzz kill on your peaceful Adirondack camping trip.

Note: Always bring a tent when camping in the Adirondacks. I have been known to camp under the stars, and I learned the hard way. I also learned a camping chair and German made cars aren’t the best substitute.

If you have any hidden gems of the Adirondacks you would like to share or any photos of your self enjoying the park its self email them to me at Alanfish@1045theteam.com
