It wasn't just Shen baseball star Ian Anderson who was drafted this week in the MLB Baseball Draft. While Anderson went 3rd overall to the Atlanta Braves, several other players with Capital Region ties were drafted as well:

Stephen Woods of UAlbany was drafted in the 8th round by the Giants while La Salle grad Zach Remillard was drafted in the 10th round by the Chicago White Sox.

In addition, the Anderson family got another nice surprise when they received this message:

Ben Anderson is both a catcher and pitcher at Shen - and he's committed to Binghamton. If he sticks with pitching, he has a projectable build and an upper-80s fastball. I imagine going to college is certainly the best route for Ben, but this is a nice confidence booster for him.

Also drafted out of the 518 was Union baseball pitcher Jake Fishman. He went in the 30th round to the Blue Jays as well. Just a junior, Fishman can decide whether or not he will return to Union for his senior year.
