Former NFL offensive lineman Brian Baldinger knows finger injuries, and the one to Jason Pierre-Paul? He’s beyond concerned.

“This injury to JPP is one of the most tragic things I’ve ever heard of,” said Baldinger, currently with the NFL Network, to Armen and Levack on 104.5 The Team. “This is going to be extremely difficult for him to ever come close to playing football again. He might play but I don’t think he’ll ever be effective again.”

During his career, Baldinger caught his pinky in the facemask of Cowboys Hall of Fame linebacker Randy White. To this day, it sticks out and away from his hand at almost a 90-degree angle.

“My pinkie and JPP’s amputated index finger are totally different injuries. You could amputate my finger and I could have still played. I taped my last two fingers together and I was find.”

Despite doctors saying that the index finger is the least important finger and best one to lose, Baldinger believes that it’s a completely different philosophy in the game of football.

“Everything is with your hands - grip, grabbing, controlling the offensive linemen, shedding a running back. You’re going to lose a minimum of 50% of your grip strength.

“He’s literally going to be playing with one hand. He’s never going to be anywhere near a dominant player ever again.”

Armen and Levack can be heard weekdays from 3 to 7 on ‘Your home for New York Sports’, 104.5 The Team.
