Former Yankees Tommy John was in Albany this week as a special guest for the Center for Disability Services Foundation. John was the guest speaker for the Aficionado Experience presented by Northwestern Mutual. The event's proceeds benefited the restoration of the center’s therapy pool and replacement of six center buses destroyed by a fire in 2014. John was greeted with a rendition of "Take Me Out To the Ball Game" when he entered the facilities. Tommy and I had spoken together in the past in Central New York and from the start he was ribbing me about my Syracuse polo shirt. "Hey I thought Syracuse was blue and purple?" and "If Jim Boeheim was here you would peppering him with questions all day" were just some of Tommy's remarks towards. Tommy had told me in the past that he was a fantastic basketball player along with his stellar play on the baseball diamond. We discussed that plus, Tommy played "Teammates in a Hat" where he told some stories about some of his former teammates.
