Tony Fusco (Shenendehowa) and Zach Diekel (Whitehall), both wrestling at the 195-lb. level, brought home championships in the 50th annual New York State Championships held at the Times Union Center on Sunday.

Fusco completed his senior year with an amazing 36-0 record when he scored an 11-3 major decision over Reggie Williams (Johnson City, Section 4) in Division I action.

Diekel posted a 9-3 decision over Bryce Mazurewski (Avon-Section 5) in the Division 2 matchup.

El Shaddai Gilmore-Van Hoesen (285, Div. I) of Columbia and Alex Soutiere (285, Div. II) of Ravena took second in Division I activity.

Curt Rowley (132) of Duanesburg and Aaron Dudley (160) of Hudson Falls both finished second in Division II.

Other top Section II finishers (Division I) included: 113-Brandon Lapi (Amsterdam), fourth; 132-Nick Kelley (Shenendehowa), third; 138-David Almaviva (Shenendehowa), third; 145-Evan Wallace (Columbia), third; 160-Connor Sutton (LaSalle), sixth; 170-Stephen Lumley (South Glens Falls), sixth.

Division II wrestlers consisted of: 99-Luis Weierbach (Hoosick Falls), fifth; 170-Brad Burns (Hoosick Falls), sixth; 182-Tyler Morris (Salem), fourth.

Shenendehowa captured the individual team championship once again to complete a successful season.

It was announced that the state championships will return to the Times Union Center the next four years.
