We are just days away from the start of the Major League Baseball draft which means we are just days away from the inevitable selection of Niskayuna star Garrett Whitley.

Whitley will look to become the second player from the Capital Region drafted in the first round in as many years (Shaker's Jeff Hoffman went No. 9 last year).

Earlier in the year, Baseball Prospectus had Whitley going No. 1 overall to the Diamondbacks, and I recently saw him pegged at No. 13 by Baseball America and No. 16 by Fangraphs.

Whitley has been invited to the MLB Draft and is going to be one of just three players in attendance at the MLB Networks Studio 42.

He joined us today to talk about his emotions, the whole draft process, and he told us why a Major League GM should take him with their selection:

"They should take Garrett Whitley because he's a strong, athletic ballplayer, who has five tools, and is one of the most mature players in the draft - ready for pro ball."
