Mariano Rivera or Bartolo Colon?

Who would you rather have in the 9th inning?  This is actually a debate that people are having today.

In the 8th inning of last night's game against the Orioles, Joe Girardi took Colon out of the game.  The Yanks had a 1-0 lead which meant Mariano Rivera was in for the save.

But Mo blew the save and Yankee fans blew a gasket.  It's just another reason to dislike Joe Girardi.  But I'm siding with the Yankees skipper here.

Girardi made the correct move.  In a save situation, you're supposed to bring in Mariano Rivera in the 9th inning.  This isn't even a debate.

You can make a case that Colon wasn’t tired.  After all, he only threw 87 pitches.  You could also make a case that the Orioles couldn’t hit him - they only managed 3 hits through 8 innings.  But - MARIANO RIVERA IS THE BEST CLOSER EVER!  When you can use him, you use him!  End of story.

If the Yankees didn’t use Mo and Colon ending up blowing the game, you’d probably want Girardi fired today.  It’s a no-win situation for the Yanks skipper – that’s why I said Yankee manager is the toughest coaching job in sports.

Stop kidding yourselves.  You're talking about the best reliever of all-time replacing a fat sloth that’s been out of baseball for 2 years who's now in middle of a resurgence.

Take a deep breath, think about it and then try and disagree with me on this.
