It's been in Glens Falls for 35 years straight, but after this year, the New York State boys' basketball state tournament will no longer call the Civic Center home.

The Glens Falls area lost its bid yesterday to retain the tournament beyond this year, losing out to Binghamton.

Like most things, unfortunately, this decision seems to come about because of money: Binghamton is offering free arena rental and is throwing in $30,000 which can be used for other costs as NYSPHSAA sees fit.

This is lower than Glens Falls, which was willing to offer $12,500 in arena rental and then throw in $25,000.

Today, before "Capital Region Sports Saturday" I spoke with Robert Zayas at NYSPHSAA about the decision.
