Jacob Goebbert of the San Diego Padres will become the 31st former Tri-City ValleyCat to play in the big leagues when he sees his first action with the club.

The outfielder was called up to replace Yonder Alonso, who was put on the disabled list Thursday.

Goebbert played 59 games with Tri-City in 2009, batting .238 with a .332 on-base percentage.

After being drafted by the Astros in the 13th round in 2009, he was traded to the A’s last April for reliever Travis Blackley. He was then shipped to the Padres for Kyle Blanks this season.
